Why do you need my verification documents and what documents are acceptable?

To help keep your account and identity safe, sometimes Self will need to request documents to verify your identity or ownership of payment methods. 

We typically request one or more of the following items: 

  • Government Issued Identification Card
    • If we ask for a Driver’s License or other photo ID, you may provide any of the following:
      • State Issued Driver’s License
      • State Issued Identification Card
      • US Passport
      • US Permanent Resident Card (Green Card)
      • Military ID
      • Any other form of state issued color photo ID that includes your name, date of birth, and address
  • Social Security Card
    • Alternative documents:
      • SSA-1099 form
      • Non-SSA-1099 form
      • Pay stub with your name and Social Security number on it
      • Social Security Administration documents establishing that you are ineligible for a Social Security number
  • Picture of you holding your ID
    • An image of you holding your photo ID with your face visible in the image
  • Bank Statement 
    • Bank Statement should show a visible payment to Self if possible
    • For alternative banks (CashApp, Greendot, gift card, etc.) transaction history and receipts with the account number are acceptable
    • Statements should be for the most recent month and clearly show the last 4 digits of the account number as well as the account holder's name
    • Alternative documents:
      • A voided check for the account in question
  • Debit Card
    • Alternative documents:
      • A bank statement showing that card number being used to make payments to Self
  • Account holder’s Identification Card
    • Anytime the name on the payment method differs from the Self account holder we need an image of the payment method account holder’s Identification Card
