Why haven't I heard of a "Credit Builder Account" before?

Credit Builder Accounts, otherwise known as credit builder loans, have been offered by community banks and credit unions for decades. These financial products, technically known as Savings-Secured Loans or Certificate of Deposit (CD)-Secured Loans, have helped many thousands of people establish credit history in a safe, responsible way.

Before Self existed, these loans were only available in certain geographic areas at some community organizations, community banks, and credit unions. Self is the first company to offer a credit builder loan, what we call a Credit Builder Account, online or via our mobile app in all 50 states.
